Thank you for taking the time to review my policies! These policies support a positive experience working together. Paying a deposit is an agreement to these policies, so please review before paying & email me with any questions hax.shannon@gmail.com
Your tattoo is a permanent modification and I want to make sure you are happy with the design and are as comfortable as possible during the procedure. I encourage you to read my client affirmations. And always, you are invited to please speak up about any needs that may arise for you.
Thank you!
Shop Policies
We continue to request that people mask in our space, please wear a face mask to your appointment or consultation.
Masks are also available at the shop.
If you cannot wear a mask for any reason just let me know and we can discuss making it optional for you.
You’re welcome to bring a guest with you! Limit is one guest per client unless there’s a group matching tattoo happening. Just let me know in advance.
Note: People under the age of 18 are not allowed in the shop. The only exception is 17-year-olds making an appointment for a tattoo on or after their 18th birthday.

Reschedules made with less than 48 hours notice forfeit the original deposit and will require paying a new $100 deposit.
If you are running more than 15 minutes late without communicating with me, we may have to reschedule your appointment which forfeits the original deposit and requires payment of an additional deposit. If you are more than 30 minutes late, your original deposit is forfeit and will require another to reschedule.
pls communicate with me if you’re running late! the best way to get a hold of me last minute is to call or text 510-338-7934
Deposits are good for up to 3 months and for no more than one reschedule.
The exceptions are pregnancy, hospitalization, or medical/medication conflicts. If you become pregnant, hospitalized, or have to start a medication or medical treatment that prevents you from getting a tattoo after you have put down a deposit, I am happy to return your deposit or honor it when you’re ready.
Winter Deposit Policies
November - January the following special deposit policies apply:
In the winter and holiday months there is no complimentary reschedule included with a deposit. Any reschedule requests will be required to pay additional $100 deposit.
Rates & Pricing
To book, I have a $200 minimum, per client, per session.
I charge a mix of by the piece or hourly depending on the project.
By-the-piece pricing
For most projects, I charge by the piece based on complexity, detail, placement, amount of color if any. I can provide estimates upon booking.
Prices reflect not just the time spent tattooing but also cost of supplies, artist cut to shop, set up and break down, time spent drawing, admin work, etc.
I’m happy to discuss breaking by-the-piece priced tattoos into multiple sessions to manage cost.
Hourly pricing
For very large or detailed ongoing projects that require multiple sessions to complete I charge a client-selected sliding scale rate of $240-300/hour. I encourage you to pay what feels comfortable to you, no questions asked.
My hourly rate is high because I tattoo fast! Please feel free to ask for estimates how long a project may take.
I’m happy to discuss breaking multiple sessions into smaller hourly chunks to manage cost. For ex. a tattoo estimated to take 12 hours could be done in two 6 hour sessions, three 4-hour sessions, six 2-hour sessions, etc.
Life happens and finances can change. If we planned for a long session and you need to reduce to a shorter session for the appointment, just let me know! I'm happy to have an on-going conversation about budget during the tattoo process.
Resting & Breaks
I structure tattoo sessions to do 50 minutes on tattooing, 10 minutes off to stretch my body and rest my hands. I do not charge for my break time.
Outside of this you are welcome to request any extra breaks to care for your body. I do not charge for client body breaks: water, restroom, stretching, pain relief, etc. Please take care of yourself :)
Custom Pieces
If you are getting a custom piece:
Make sure you are clear on your design and tell me all the details I need to know and any reference photos before putting down a deposit. Be sure to communicate any elements that absolutely should or should not be included, and any specific inspiration, if any. if you’re open to artistic freedom, please specify that and specify to what degree.
Changes in the design after I have drawn it up may be subject to additional charge. IE; if you originally requested roses but then decide to go with peonies.
I share custom designs on the day of your appointment. I do not share any designs via email. At that time we can review it together and make any small changes you might like to see. These are expected and welcomed.
If you are interested in viewing your design prior to your appointment, you can schedule a design review consultation to check out a sketch/rough color mock-up. If you would like to schedule this design review consultation, please let me know when you book your appointment or consultation.
If requested changes are substantial and require a design re-draw, we can spend time together working on the design. However the tattoo will have to be rescheduled, which requires payment of a new deposit. Redrawing is also subject to additional drawing fees, depending on the amount of drawing labor.
Touch-ups
Touch-ups are free within the first year of your tattoo. To schedule your free touch-up:
I highly recommend you schedule your touch up after the tattoo is healed 1-3 months to ensure even aging of the tattoo.
If you need to reschedule your touch up appointment please just let me know with as much notice as possible.
If you no call/no show to a scheduled touch up it counts towards the free touch up and you will have to pay a deposit to reschedule.
The best way to schedule a touch-up is to email me a picture of your healed tattoo so that I can get a sense of how long a touch-up appointment you need & fit you into my calendar.
If you wait longer than 1 year to schedule your touch up I will have to charge. Please don’t wait to schedule!
If you have waited longer than a year for a touch up but you are coming in for a new tattoo I can still honor the free touch up.
About Our Space
We are a queer space, please do not assume someone’s pronouns in the shop, whether it be another client or an artist. Feel free to ask me if you’re unsure how to address someone, but using they/them is fine until you get a formal introduction. My pronouns are they/them or he/him.
Transportation & Parking
Pretty In Ink: Alameda is located 2329 Santa Clara Ave #205, Alameda, CA 94501
If you are driving to the shop, I recommend parking in the movie theater public parking garage located on Oak St. between Central and Santa Clara. The rate is cheaper than metered parking (75 cents/hour), and the time limit is longer as well. Parking there is free after 5pm.
If you don’t mind a bit of a walk, you can sometimes find free all-day street parking on Santa Clara about a block North from the Buddhist Temple.
Note- if you are using Google maps: Google maps tends to confuse people as it announces “you have arrived” on Park street, in front of Ole's Waffle Shop. The entrance to our building is just around the corner on Santa Clara Ave., next to Gong Cha. You will see our sandwich board sign out on the sidewalk.
If you are coming from BART, there are buses that run from Fruitvale station into Alameda.
Helpful Info
I do my best to prevent ink from splashing on clothing, though it is always a possibility, so I recommend wearing something you would not mind possibly getting ink on.
Wear something comfortable that allows for easy access to the area you will be getting tattooed.
Please have something to eat before your tattoo. I wouldn’t recommend getting tattooed on an empty stomach. You’re also welcome to bring snacks to your appointment, and we have candies in the shop.
You may take ibuprofen prior to your appointment if you are able to take ibuprofen.
If you would like to review a recommended aftercare routine in advance, click here. I will also go over aftercare instructions with you after your tattoo and can send you home with a sheet of instructions.
I look forward to working with you!
